APPROACH
My approach to therapy is educational and highly personalized. Psychotherapy teaches you about yourself, and teaches you about the things you do that ultimately get in the way of your self-interests. Rather than focusing on mere symptom reduction, I focus on the individual person experiencing those symptoms, taking into account your unique temperament, identifications, social and family upbringing, personality style, cultural context, relationship history, and all the idiosyncrasies that make you, you.
In terms of style, I strive to be direct, sincere, emotionally accurate, and when appropriate, humorous. Therapy is special in that one learns to offer a unique kind of attention that allows for intimate participation while maintaining a separate space for observation. Some phases of therapy are challenging, but most come to enjoy the unlimited richness of the moment-to-moment encounter of two minds.
